Okay, so we all know what a selfie is, right? In the offhand chance that you do not know what a selfie is, I will fill you in. A selfie is a picture you take of yourself. It usually involves holding the camera or cell phone out in front of you (and typically making an un-ironic ugly face). You get some interesting photo angles when you take a selfie. Typically, these angles are not very flattering. Regardless, it is not uncommon to see people taking selfies in malls, historic sites, monuments, you name it. Some people despise the selfie. Others cannot get enough of this social phenomenon. Selfies may flood your Facebook or Instagram news feeds. It seems as though “selfieing” is becoming an obsession for some people!
People who take selfies began to realize that they could only fit so many people into their photos. Arms are only so long! Plus, you cannot get much scenery in selfie pictures. Enter, the SELFIE STICK! The purpose of a selfie stick is to enable you to take a selfie from a distance! You can get more people into a photo and you can see more of your surroundings. It is a simple concept- you put your cell phone on the handle of the stick. When you are ready to take the photo, you push a button on the handle. Voila! You have a selfie! The selfie stick typically sells for anywhere from $7.00 up to around $30.00. However, selfie sticks have been banned from various sporting events, museums, historical sites, concert venues, and theme parks. Recently, Walt Disney World banned selfie sticks altogether citing that they are obnoxious and present a danger to other park goers.
While selfies and selfie sticks were a big thing for a while, the new thing is drone selfies also know as dronies!! What is a dronie you ask? It is a selfie taken with a drone (or an unmanned aerial vehicle)! It is like a selfie from the sky, and it is becoming increasingly popular. Dronies commonly start out close up and then zoom out to show the surrounding landscape.
