Nowadays, when you mention the idea of 18-year-olds getting married most people have a fairly strong reaction. And it is not typically a positive reaction. Some common responses to this concept would be “they are way too young” “it will never last” or “someone should stop them, they are making a mistake.”
We are going to give people the benefit of the doubt and say their concerns are at least somewhat rooted in a genuine desire for happiness and general well-being of the young couple. After all, the current average ages of men and women in the United States who get married are 29 and 27, respectively.
But, what happens when a very young couple faces an especially challenging and heartbreaking situation? What if their time together could be limited? In the case of Luke Blanock and Natalie Britvich, getting married at the age of 18 just made sense. Under other circumstances, the decision to marry may have been delayed for the two high school sweethearts. But Luke’s diagnosis of terminal cancer led the couple to have their fairytale wedding just over a week ago.

Two years ago, Luke was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer called Ewing’s Sarcoma. Since that time, he has endured over 100 radiation treatments, nearly 25 chemotherapy treatments, and two surgeries. Natalie has been by Luke’s side through it all. Just two months ago, Luke found out his cancer is now terminal. So, it was only natural for these two high school sweethearts to make the decision to get married. Unlike most young couples who get married, this special couple did not face any criticism from their friends or family. The wedding was planned in a few weeks and on a meager budget. Despite the limited amount of time for planning, the wedding came together beautifully. In fact, many vendors offered their services at no cost to the couple. All in all, it was a magical, fairytale wedding for a very special young couple.
