Recently, a police officer from the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department in Georgia was called in for back up after another police officer found an unsupervised toddler wandering around outside. Officer James Hurst came to the child’s aid and took him to the hospital in his police cruiser. At the hospital, the had to have a medical examination. During the medical exam, the 18-month-old child became frightened and upset. He began to sob and would not cooperate with the medical staff. But, the real story is what the cop did to help out the toddler.
Instinct kicked in for Officer Hurst (a father of two). He asked the medical staff at the hospital if he could hold the child and try to soothe him. The hospital staff agreed. Officer Hurst gently held the little boy against him and the child calmed down. It was not long before the frightened little boy had fallen asleep on Officer Hurst’s chest. The officer stayed with the little boy for nearly 2 hours. What an incredible police officer! He went above and beyond the call of duty for this little boy.
